There might be many reasons why you want to blog but if you want to have a successful blog, you might want to consider the following advice:

Choose to blog only the topic that you love. If you want to blog, then blog about something that you are interested about or something that you are knowledgable about. You might not be an expert on the subject that you have chosen to blog about but if you love the subject, then go blog about it. Do not blog about topics that you are not interested in because you will soon tire up writing topics that bore you. Remember that blogging should not be burden, it should be fun. Good and regular contents will follow if you love what you blog about.

Be a friendly member of the blogging community. Make friends, exchange link and take time to visit and comment on other people's site. You can learn a lot when you visit other blogs, especially those who are established in your chosen niche. Make your site visitor friendly by not bombarding it with too much ads your site looks like a billboard.

Ride the hypes. Some emerging practices in blogging can help you bring traffic and visitors to your site. Use mybloglog, have an RSS feed, know what technorati, digg, squidoo and alexa are, and learn how viral tagging and do following can benefit your blog.

Establish yourself. Make yourself known by promoting your site through article submission; creating great contents and becoming an expert in your field. Getting a self hosted domain is also a great idea. Optionally and only if you have money, advertise your site.
