Meta Tags were abused by spammers who typed in irrelevant meta tags to ensure the sites' presence in the world of the search engines. On 1997, some search engines dropped the use of meta tags in the move against spammers. More engines followed soon. However, there are some engines that still use the meta tag as their reference. It seems like the Meta tag is one step to it's death.
